Resident Evil: Degeneration Blu-ray Exclusive?

Nothing official has been said yet, but seeing as we all know that Sony Pictures owns the Resident Evil movie license and is currently in the process of developing the first ever Resident Evil CG movie, Resident Evil: Degeneration, it begs the question: Will Sony ensure that Resident Evil: Degeneration will be Blu-ray exclusive? Sony is obviously fighting to promote their Blu-ray platform and win the ‘high definition’ war against the HD-DVD format and releasing the next Resident Evil movie as an exclusive Blu-ray title can only help boost Blu-ray sales.

Personally, I think it would be great to be able to watch Resident Evil: Degeneration in glorious high definition on a Blu-ray media player, such as the Sony PS3, but I understand that HD-DVD still retains 30% of the market at the time of my writing this article. That’s an awful lot of people who would be missing out on Resident Evil: Degeneration if it were to go Blu-ray exclusive. If you only owned a HD-DVD player, would you purchase a Blu-ray player just to watch it? Would RE: Degeneration really be entertaining enough to warrant spending over $500 or £400 on a Sony PS3 or Blu-ray player?

Like I say: Nothing is official just yet. But the folks at Sony Pictures would be fools to release Resident Evil: Degeneration on HD-DVD. I’m fairly confident that we’ll only be seeing this next Resident Evil movie in Blu-ray format and, perhaps, in a PSP-friendly UMD format – but a UMD release is a long shot in itself.

HOLY CRAP!!! they better not maxe RE:degeneration a blu-ray exclusive movie! they should release it for regular DVD, or at least itunes. serously, who wants to cough up all that dough for a better DVD player? the same goes for RE5. PS3s are too damn expensive!!!

Since i had a ps3 im not too fussed. But for home view with the family, i would very much like to see the dvd on Regular. Not only is this more convenient for the public, but also sales would over tripple the amount of that on blu-ray.

    Personel opinion

the only good thing is that this movie might take a while to come out and this will give Blu-Ray and PS3 prices time to drop…….oh please god let them drop

what the hell? I’ve waited YEARS for a freakin’ RE movie to come out. When one finally came out, it was complete SHYT and NOTHING like the games. MAJOR disappointment…and now that they finally are coming out with a RE game based movie, they’re thinking about putting it on blu-ray and PS3? WTF?! NOT EVERYONE is made of money, here! And they’d make a shitload more of money if they did it on regular DVDs, cause morrree people would buy it. If they don’t put ‘em on regular DVDs, I’m screwed and going to be severely pissed.

but Capcom released the resident evil zero and remake exclusively for nintendo gamecube only that made some RE fans upset who already owned ps2. They promised to release them on different platfroms too, but they never did. There is a chance that they might do the same thing about this blu-ray exclusive…

I am SOOOO hoping for a regular DVD release in addition to a Blu-ray. Yes, my dad has a PS3, but i’m an impatient and sometimes (like now) greedy girl who wants a copy for herself and i gotta have the regular. Don’t get me wrong! Blu-ray would be freaking sick!! but the regular DVD release makes more sense. GOSH IT NEEDS TO COME OUT NOW!!!!! I’m so excited it can’t be considered healthy!! xD
